Comcast Cares Day 2010
Every year Comcast brings together thousands of dedicated employees and their families to make a positive impact in neighborhoods across the country. It's called... Comcast Cares Day. Ellee Pai Hong provides a look at a few of the 64 different projects in the Chicago area.
Yancy Boys & Girls Club
The Yancy Boys & Girls Club in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood is the only community center in the area that offers children a safe haven to enjoy academic programming. Comcast employees happily assisted with interior renovations and outdoor landscaping on Comcast Cares Day.
Rebuilding Together Aurora
Rebuilding together Aurora is a nonprofit, volunteer organization that assists low-income homeowners with renovation and repair. Comcast teamed up with the organization for this year's Comcast Care's day to help some well deserving residents of Aurora add a fresh, new coat of paint to their home.
Beacon Therapeutic
Beacon Therapeutic in Calumet Park is a school where students with behavioral issues can learn in a loving and supportive environment. Comcast Employees and their families painted classrooms and hallways on Comcast Cares Day. The addition of fresh, new colors helps create a more relaxed atmosphere at the school, making it easier for students to learn.
Little Angels
Little Angels provides a loving home for children and young adults with severe disabilities and complex medical needs. This year Comcasters planted a sensory garden for the residents, provided spa services, played dice baseball and made personalized wheel chair license plates for each resident.
Diamond Lake Sports Complex
The Diamond Lake Sports Complex in Mundelein consists of 47 acres of Oak Savanna, wetlands and park facilities. Comcast recruited 150 employees who spent the day clearing the overgrown, wooded areas. At the end of the day, approximately 20 acres had been cleared, leaving beautiful 100-year old Oak trees to highlight the area.
